Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Ketamine assisted psychotherapy (KAP) represents a promising frontier in mental health treatment. By combining the benefits of Ketamine and psychotherapy, KAP offers a unique and potentially transformative approach for individuals seeking relief from various mental health challenges.

How KAP Works:

Ketamine is a safe anesthetic medication that creates an altered state of consciousness. It has been found to have rapid and unique effects on the brain, including the potential to enhance neuroplasticity and promote the formation of new neural connections. KAP consists of three components, preparation (prep), journey, and integration.

Preparation (prep):

Prep is largely educational, so the client feels well supported and knows what to expect. During the prep the therapist helps the client set goals and an intention for their journey. Together they co-create a comfortable setting which may include photos of family, poems, candles, and aromatherapy.

Integration:

After a psychedelic experience, individuals may have profound insights, emotions, or realizations. Integration involves reflecting on these realizations and finding ways to make sense of them, incorporate them into one’s understanding of self, and integrate this new understanding into their life.

Our staff is specially trained in psychedelic integration to provide supportive and non- judgmentzal space for the client to share their experiences. This support can help you navigate any challenging emotions or thoughts that may arise. This process often begins immediately after the medicine has worn off and continues between medicine sessions.

Journey:

The journey is the experience while on the effects of the medicine. With the help of carefully orchestrated music, the therapist guides the client through the experience helping them explore and process thoughts and emotions that arise during the treatment.

Costs:

Ketamine sessions require a two-and-a-half-hour visit and are not covered by insurance. Clients are billed $150 per hour for individual sessions. It is also necessary to have a medical evaluation to obtain a prescription for Ketamine Lozenges which are self- administered while with your therapist.

Mind’s Eye Psychotherapy can refer you to a partner medical provider, however you are responsible for paying that provider their rate. The average rate for a medical evaluation is approximately $350. This visit is usually covered by insurance. The client is also responsible for payment of the medication which runs approximately $5-$10 per lozenge.

We are happy to provide KAP for clients who are seeing outside providers for psychotherapy. We will provide treatment notes and work in coordination with the primary therapist to help the client meet their treatment goals.

We partner with Imagine Healthcare for a medical evaluation and prescription for Ketamine given there are no counter indications. This evaluation is $300 and is usually covered by insurance. Imagine Healthcare will send your prescription to Ashland Pharmacy which delivers it to your door. The medication runs approximately $69 for six 100 mg lozenges. Dosage varies and will be determined by your medical provider at Imagine Healthcare. We start low and go slow! Our first medication session is usually at a low dosage (50mg - 100mg) depending on experience with non-ordinary states of consciousness. Many choose to go up to 100 to 200 mg for the second session and 300 mg for the 3rd.
